The only curling horned representative of our Hungarian game fauna. It's preferred habitats are mainly forestry areas. Significant populations are in the Northern Central Range of Mountains (Északi-középhegység), in the Buda and Cserhát Mountains, in Transdanubia, in Bakony, Vértes, Gerecse and Pilis Mountains. The best-quality population is in the Mátra and Buda Mountains. The male mouflon called the ram and the female (before farrow) called the ewe, after farrow the sheep, the young depending on the sex) young ram or ewe lamb. The mouflon (or wild sheep), which were being resettled from Corsica was put aside for a long time. The red deer, fallow deer and roebuck world records didn't pay too much attention to the mouflon. But in 1986 in Telki such a specimen was taken over, which curl was 104 cm. This scored the 10th place of the world record list, confirming the excellent quality of the Hungarian moufflon. Ever since several "metre long" rams were taken over, showing that the quality of the stock is improving due to the excellent professional work.

The best stock is located in our mountains, in the Mátra, Bükk and mainly in Pilis, due to the resettlement they are located all over the mountainous areas. The mouflon is mainly still-hunted, It is a real sport achievement to start walking in the mountains and still-hunt a moufflon, but upon request cross country vehicles or horse carriages are also available. Main season is November and December. Mouflon, red deer and boar hunting can be an excellent combination.
